Ashburn, VA (Oct. 2, 2009)--Renowned courtroom sketch artist William J. Hennessy exhibits his work at The George Washington University Virginia Campus Oct. 12 through Nov. 30. An artist reception is open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Building 2 First Floor Gallery. A second exhibit of Supreme Court Chief Justice portraits, some by noted presidential and civil war photographer Mathew Brady, are also on exhibit.
A preeminent courtroom sketch artist, Hennessy’s work has been produced and aired on network news programs and in national newspapers and magazines. He has covered major cases ranging from the DC snipers, White House CIA leak, the impeachment trials of President Bill Clinton, John Bobbitt, Supreme Court cases, and many others.
Hennessy has been a featured guest on NBC Dateline, CNN, ABC News Now, Fox News, and recently published All Rise: Courts, Crime, and Courtroom Art by Seven Knights Publishing Co.
The portraits of all Supreme Court Chief Justices, 17 in all, are on exhibit in the Lower Level Gallery of Building 2. From the Collection of the Supreme Court of the United States, digital files, the collection includes John Jay, John Rutledge, Oliver Ellsworth, John Marshall, Roger Taney, Salmon P. Chase, Morrison Waite, Melville Fuller, Edward D. White, William Howard Taft, Charles Evans Hughes, Harlan F. Stone, Fred M. Vinson, Earl Warren, Warren E. Burger, William H. Rehniquist, and John G. Roberts.
The Regional Artist Series is the result of a partnership between the GW Virginia Campus and Gallery222/Loudoun Academy of the Arts Foundation to bring artists and artwork of exceptional quality to the greater Loudoun community.
